The Atom DC Comics Price Guide for 2026

Most Valuable The Atom DC Comics in 2026

"Sometimes, even a scientist must have faith."

No less than five characters have been The Atom over the years.

Here they are, with their first appearances:

  • Al Pratt: All-American Comics #19 (1940)
  • Ray Palmer: Showcase #34 (1961)
  • Adam Cray: Suicide Squad #44 (1990)
  • Paul Hoben: The Atom Special #1 (1993)
  • Ryan Choi: DCU: Brave New World #1 (2006)

The two big ones, value-wise, are the first two.

Al Pratt appeared in All-American Comics, Flash Comics and All-Star Comics as part of the Justice Society of America.

Ray Palmer starred in his own comic series from 1962 to 1982. He joined the Justice League of America several years after its launch.

The Atom DC Comics Most Valuable Issues

All-American Comics #19
1st Atom

Lowest price $2,000

The Atom is one of the early DC Comics heroes who went on hiatus in the 1950s. He went on to join the Justice Society of America.

All-American Comics #20
1st Atom in costume

Lowest price $300

Average price $2,500

Several superheroes began their lives out of costume. The Atom is one of them.

Interestingly, another pint-size hero, Ant-Man, followed "suit" over 20 years later by first appearing in civilian clothing.

All-Star Comics #3
1st Justice Society of America

Lowest price $3,000

Average price $20,000

Record price $358,000

Although this is not an exciting issue -- the JSA don't do anything but sit around and talk -- it is a critically important comic, as it's the first ever super-team.

The Justice League of America and the likes of the Fantastic Four owe their existence to this comic book.

All-Star Comics #42
New costume for The Atom

Lowest price $100

Average price $400

Record price $13,200

Looking at this cover, it's not hard to see why superhero comics gradually lost ground to Golden Age horror comics. Very hokey.

Atom #1 (1962)
1st in long-running series

Lowest price $50

Average price $250

Record price $25,000

The Atom DC Comics spun off this series after his first Silver Age appearance in Showcase #34. The series survived for 20 years.

Atom #7
1st Atom and Hawkman team-up

Lowest price $20

Atom #29
1st Golden Age Atom solo appearance in the Silver Age

Lowest price $10

Average price $60

Record price $2,640

This is a minor key issue. Nothing special.

DC Special Series #1 (1977)
Five heroes including The Atom

Lowest price $5

Average price $40

Record price $700

This series was confusing to readers, being branded Dollar Comics. Few survive in really top condition.

80-Page Giant #8 (1965)
Secret Origins including The Atom, Flash and Robin

Lowest price $20

These giant issues are very hard to find in high grade. Retells origin stories of several famous DC Comics superheroes.

Flash Comic Book #129
JSA appearance; early Silver Age appearance

Lowest price $25

Average price $300

Record price $8,400

Although not a Wonder Woman cover (how cool would that have been?), Diana appears as part of the Justice Society of America. Golden Age Atom appearance.

Hawkman #9
Atom and Hawkman learn each other's identities

Lowest price $10

Average price $50

Record price $5,760

DC Comics pulled this trope many times over the years, with the likes of Superman and Batman learning each other's identities.

Justice League of America #14
Atom joins the JLA

Lowest price $10

Average price $100

Record price $19,000

One of the few JLA comics after the first issues with any decent value. Only really expensive in very high grade.
